Kit. In reality, water cranes with articulated arms were often found on train station platforms at departure tracks. The reason for this location was clear: if a steam locomotive of an incoming train needed to take on water, it didn't always stop precisely at a water crane. Having to reverse or move forward again would have posed an increased risk to boarding and disembarking passengers. The articulated arm provided some length adjustment, allowing the nozzle to reach the filling opening of the water tank in the locomotive tender without the train having to move. These types of water cranes were often part of a railway workshop's inventory. The models come with an additional base with a staircase to compensate for the height difference between trackbeds and model tracks.
