The Ferdinand, a German heavy tank destroyer from World War II, was designed to provide extreme long-range anti-tank firepower with unmatched frontal armor. Originating in 1942 and named after Ferdinand Porsche, it was built on the unused Porsche VK 45.01 (P) Tiger chassis, which was rejected in favor of the Henschel Tiger I. Instead of discarding the manufactured hulls, the German Army transformed them into a specialized tank destroyer. Ninety-one vehicles were completed in early 1943, making the Ferdinand a rare and highly specialized armored vehicle.
